Biography:
Adile Naşit was born on June 17, 1930, in the Eyüpsultan district of Istanbul. When her father passed away while she was still young, Adile Naşit left school and joined the Istanbul City Theatres Children’s Theatre at the age of 14. Throughout her theater career, she performed in many important plays and garnered attention for her talent. She quickly gained recognition when she ventured into cinema, becoming one of Turkey’s prominent comedy actresses. She was particularly beloved for her roles alongside Kemal Sunal in films that endeared her to wide audiences. Adile Naşit also enjoyed a successful television career, appearing in numerous popular series that endeared her to the Turkish public. Beyond comedy, she demonstrated her skill in dramatic roles as well. Considered one of Turkey’s leading comedy icons, Adile Naşit earned numerous awards throughout her artistic career. Despite her passing on December 11, 1987, in Istanbul, her works and characters continue to resonate within Turkish culture.
Artistic career:
After her father passed away, Adile Naşit left school and joined the Istanbul City Theatres Children’s Theatre at the age of 14. She initially performed in Halide Pişkin’s group in the play “Herşeyden Biraz,” which toured Istanbul. Later, she joined Muammer Karaca’s theatre group. Between 1948 and 1951, she worked with comedians Aziz Basmacı and Vahi Öz in a group they founded. She returned to Muammer Karaca Theatre in 1954 and remained there until 1960. After the dissolution of Naşit Theatre, which she co-founded with her husband Ziya Keskiner and brother Selim Naşit Özcan in 1961, she worked at the “Gazanfer Özcan – Gönül Ülkü Theatre” from 1963 to 1975. In addition to theatre plays, she also gained acclaim in musicals such as “Hisseli Harikalar Kumpanyası,” “Neşe-i Muhabbet,” and “Şen Sazın Bülbülleri.” She made her cinematic debut in 1947 with the film “Yara,” directed by Seyfi Havaeri, but started to appear more frequently in films in the 1970s. She won the Best Actress Award at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival in 1976 for her role in the film “İşte Hayat.” She gained fame for her role as Hafize Ana in the “Hababam Sınıfı” film series. Starting in 1978, she began to participate in international art performances, including theatre and musicals. She predominantly appeared in comedy films directed by Ertem Eğilmez and Kartal Tibet. After the loss of her only child Ahmet, she focused more on children’s roles. She became known as “Masalcı Teyze” (Storyteller Aunt) for her role in the children’s program “Uykudan Önce” produced by İlhan Şengün at TRT Ankara Television in 1980, where she narrated tales and stories.
